FURNESS YOUTH THEATREDRAMA ACTIVITIES |
![]() Carol singing in Barrow Town Hall Furness Youth Theatre performs high quality productions with young people aged 9 to 18. We produce predominantly plays as our main large-venue productions, with concerts, pantomimes and more informal, experimental and members' own devised works in smaller venues. The group began as a grassroots community association. Its purpose was to provide family entertainment performed by local youngsters, and in doing so to develop their artistic, expressive, technical and social skills - including increasing their self-confidence. This approach of developing skills in a project-oriented environment proved very successful, and has been continued to the present. We typically produce one major show at one of Cumbria's main theatres each year, and several smaller scale productions in other venues. Meetings involve a variety of activities, interleaved with rehearsals for the productions in progress. There are drama games and exercises, including improvisation and creating sketches for the devised productions, plus other activities to encourage creativity, confidence and self-expression. These drama activities provide young people with a safe space where they can develop their communications skills and self-assurance, while having lots of fun. We also arrange discounted block bookings to attend shows in local venues. Membership is open to everyone aged 9 to 18 regardless of previous experience. Fees are five pounds per week. |
