FURNESS YOUTH THEATRE

ACTIVITIES AND PRODUCTIONS

Furness Youth Theatre performs high quality productions with young people aged 9 to 18. We produce predominantly plays as our main large-venue productions, with musicals, pantomimes and more informal, experimental and members' own devised works in smaller venues.

The group began as a grassroots community association. Its purpose was to provide family entertainment performed by local youngsters, and in doing so to develop their artistic, expressive, technical and social skills - including increasing their self-confidence.

This approach proved very successful, and has been continued to the present. Activities are project-based, with meetings aiming towards the next production.

We typically produce one major show at The Forum main theatre each year, and several smaller scale productions in other venues.

Meetings involve rehearsals for the productions in progress, and also a variety of drama games and exercises, including improvisation and creating sketches for the devised productions, plus other activities to encourage confidence and self-expression.

These drama activities provide young people with a safe space where they can develop their communications skills and self-assurance, while having lots of fun.

Membership is open to everyone aged 9 to 18 regardless of previous experience. Fees are four pounds per week.
